Alena Mikhaylova, Ph.D. is a Technical Promotions Engineer for South Central Region at Rinker Materials. She earned her Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering in Russia in 2005, Masters Degree in Civil Engineering in 2009 and Doctorate degree in Civil Engineering in 2013 from the University of Texas in Arlington. Prior to joining Rinker, Alena worked for Global Maritime, performing advanced FEA of mobile offshore drilling units for operations in Gulf of Mexico, Canada and North Sea regions. Alena is an active member of engineering community serving on ASTM C13 and F17 committees, she also a member of Transportation Research Board Standing Committees AFS40 on Subsurface Soil- Structure Interaction and AFF70 on Culverts and Hydraulic Structures and a chair of the Infrastructure Advancement Institute committee for Critical Thinking. Alena has been serving on the board of the ASHE Houston since its inception helping launch the section in 2018 and fulfilling various roles. Currently she serves on ASHE Houston Section board as a treasurer. Section has successfully grown to 78 members to date. Alena has technical publications in peer reviewed journals and made numerous presentations at the National and International conferences, as well as engineering community. ABSTRACT : The topic will cover relationship between soil and pipe strength in regards to design and application of soil pipe system and design considerations for resilient structure in the face of extreme events.
