ABSTRACT : With the growing concern over the environment, erosion control has become a major issue in civil construction. As engineers, we are called on as experts and are expected to provide guidance to the construction community regarding the proper applications of the various types of erosion control systems. Erosion Control 101: When, Where, and How is a presentation designed to help all engineers, from entry level to senior partner, develop a better understanding of the available erosion control solutions and when one choice is better than another. When is hard armor truly needed? Can I have a green solution or do I have to use slope paving or rip rap? What is the difference between an Erosion Control Blanket (ECB) and Turf Reinforcement Mat (TRM)? When should I consider Hydromulch? These are questions that many engineers have, and not having a clear answer to these questions often leads to over-design. Mr. Brooks will answer these questions and more. WHO SHOULD ATTENDHighway engineers and officials, civil engineers, general contractors, roadway contractors, and others interested in learning more about erosion control of embankments.
