ABSTRACT : During Hurricane Harvey heavy rains inundated Houston and the surrounding areas causing severe flooding. The 5 day rainfall total exceeded 25+ inches. The IH 69/US 59 Bridge over the San Jacinto River was significantly affected by flooding and debris. Channel migration and scour removed a significant amount of soil around some of the bents, which led to the bridge being load posted and repair measures being implemented. This talk will focus on the flooding, scour/channel migration, evaluation of the structure, and repair measures that were taken.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, highway engineers, and others concerned with the design of columns and piles in bodies of water where scour could occur.
